Manny Week Four: Class Act
Today in class, Mr. MuGuigan was very pleased with all of us and how eager everybody was to make an input towards the class. Today we discussed how Satrapi makes Marjane wear a black shirt with a black background and what kind of effect it has. We also discussed how page 154 acts like a giant gutter for the book and what it means.

Alice told me about the panel where Marjane is wearing black and the background is black and why would the author want the protagonist to blend into the background.
ReplyDeleteI think that most of the time Marjane (the author)makes her character blend into the background when she is either scared or her mood changes dramatically. For example; pg. 222 when Marjane was buying drugs. As she desends down into the room she becomes scared therefore her background blends her in and makes her look like she isn't there.
In my opinion there is a big gutter on page 154 because Marjane has just started a new life on her own. I also thought of it like an intermission section like in the movies, but thats just laughs. The gutter is there to represent the time that had passed from the airport to the nun's house. Because it is after the gutter when Marjane tells us about what happened after she reached Austria.
